On February 13, 2016, while bike touring Australia, I attended the Sustainable Living Festival in downtown Melbourne. There, I came across the Bike'n Blend tent where I rode the bike blender to make a delicious smoothie for the first time.
After, I though, how can I bring the bike blender to Harlem?
In September 2017, I purchased the bike blender for the Zero Waste Bicycle Event: How to Travel by Bike held on Sept 24 at Harlem Grown and it was a success!
The photo is of me experiencing the bike blender for the first time!
The zero waste bicycle event presentation was to get the word out about inspirational women who shared their bike touring experiences with a collapsible bicycle outside the USA. Most importantly, the stories could inspire fellow travelers and cyclist to realize the outdoors while showing concern for the environment.
On September 24, 2017, we have the wonderful opportunity to host our first zero waste event and use the bike blender to make delicious banana base smoothies at Harlem Grown Farm located on West 134th Street, Harlem, New York.
The fruits and vegetables compost was deposited at Harlem Grown Farm.
Party on Park was held on Sunday, October 1, 2017 on Park Avenue from 125th to 118th streets which was closed to cars and open to walking and wheels. "Party on Park" provided the community of East Harlem [El Barrio] with a safe space to walk, bike and tons of family-friendly fun, community resources, food from local small businesses, music and more!
Uptown Grand Central asked for the return of the bike blender for Party on Park. With the help of NYC Healthy and Wild Olive Market the bike blender was yet again a success! It brought great joy to watch attendees experience bike blending for the first time!
The fruit compost was deposited at Urban Garden Center.
